URBANA, Ill. -- Kyle McMorrow announced his presence at the NCAA Singles Championships with an easy win in round one. McMorrow did not lose a single game in a straight-set victory over Stephane Piro of Florida.

The 17th-ranked McMorrow needed just over an hour to complete the 6-0, 6-0 victory over Piro, the 52nd-ranked player in the country.

McMorrow, who is ranked 17th, earned a generic 9-16 seed in the tournament when the brackets were announced on Tuesday. Originally, McMorrow had not been seeded, but he was elevated to a seed when the brackets were announced and a seeded player was scratched.

The Husky senior picked up the 99th win of his Washington career, which ranks fifth all-time for UW. He is 24-6 this season and can clinch All-America honors by winning his second-round match on Thursday.

In the second round, McMorrow will face Jonas Lutjen of Mississippi. Lutjen is ranked 20th nationally and won his first-round match, 7-6 (7), 6-3, over Esben Hess-Olesen of North Carolina.

The time of the match will be announced later on Wednesday.
