Johnson, who would have been a fifth-year senior this fall, will remain on athletic scholarship until he completes his degree.
Johnson burst on to the scene in 2009, starting the season-opener vs. LSU and scoring the first touchdown of Sarkisian's tenure as head coach. He also caught a TD pass the following game vs. Idaho, becoming the first true freshman receiver in UW history to score touchdowns in each of his first two games. In total, he played in 30 games at the UW, catching 68 passes for 791 yards and seven touchdowns.
Additionally, Sarkisian announced that the following four student-athletes have requested and been granted their release from the Husky football team: WR Jamaal Jones, DB Darien Washington, TB Erich Wilson II and LB Evan Zeger.
The Huskies open the 2013 football season at newly renovated Husky Stadium on Aug. 31 vs. Boise State.
