Washington Athletics Internship Program

Washington's Athletic Internship Program explores many facets of sports administration. Student Interns will gain a strong understanding of possibilities, challenges and rewards facing administrators in Division 1 Athletics today.  To apply, click on the contact name listed in each posting. ATHLETIC COMMUNICATIONS

Assists staff with daily operations of the Sports Information/Communications Office with concentration on serving as the primary media contact for selected sports.

Requirements: Must have previous work experience (at least one year) in sports information/communications office in college, professional or semi-pro athletics. Must have strong verbal and written communications skills, knowledge and participation in social media, ability to get along with others, accept feedback, handle pressure and be flexible. Other skills preferred are Adobe InDesign, Adobe Photoshop, StatCrew and HTML . Strongly prefer a candidate enrolled in IAL program or other graduate school at the University of Washington.

Responsibilities: 
Game day coverage, event management, compilation of statistics, writing press releases and feature stories, producing media information, some videography and photography, and updating the department’s web site (www.GoHuskies.com). The successful candidate will have responsibility as the primary media for assigned sports, and will assist in the coverage of other sports as directed.

Duration: 
August 1, 2014 - June 1, 2015 (are flexible). Some nights, weekends and Holidays
Pay Structure: Stipend w/occasional opportunities to work extra events for extra pay

MEN'S & WOMEN'S CREW

Assists in the administrative support and day to day team operations of Coaches and Staff. Organizes mailing and facilitates donor and alumni events. Maintains recruiting and alumni database

Requirements: Basic Microsoft Office. Ability to work some Saturdays.

Responsibilities: Assist with planning and preparation of events, day to day operations using basic office skills.

Duration: September - June, 10-15 hrs/week
Compensation: Volunteer, possible stipend

NEW MEDIA & RECRUITING

Assists with the research and development of unique ideas surrounding new media and recruiting. Contribute to the year-round creation of web content focused on outreach and conversation with fans through social media sites for increased in-game experience.

Requirements: Current or Incoming student. Photoshop proficient. Ability to work evenings and weekends.

Responsibilities: Web content, creation, research and development. Outreach and conversation with fans.

Duration: August - June, 20hrs/week

STUDENT-ATHLETE DEVELOPMENT

Assists the Student-Athlete Academic Services staff in all facets of the DAWGS Student-Athlete Development program, including programming, career development, community outreach, events, and administrative support.

Requirements: Student working towards their Masters. Commit to a full academic year.

Responsibilities: See Attatched  

Duration: September - June some nights.
Compensation: Hourly

TICKET OFFICE

Assists in all aspects of operating an intercollegiate athletic ticket office, including interacting with donors, students and the general public. Supports staff in preparation of hosting NCAA Events.

Requirements: Graduate student working towards their Masters degree, external relations in athletic business or development.  Ability to work evenings and weekends.
Responsibilities: Ticket office support including front line sales and customer service relations. Event box office and account management, and player guest admissions, inventory control.
Duration: January - December 30-40hrs/week
Compensation: Stipend

VIDEO OPERATIONS

Assists with video support for athletic team practice, games and special events.

Requirements: Current of incoming student. Video knowledge, experience.

Responsibilities: Set up equipment, video practices, general department video assistance.
