A veteran member of Head Coach Tyrone Willingham's administrative staff, Erica Genise has been Director of Football Operations at Washington since January 2005. Genise manages all aspects of team travel and the football budget, as well as overseeing office personnel and other various tasks assigned by Willingham.
Well-respected in her field, Genise is at present just one of five women in her position at the NCAA Division I-A level. She serves as the District 9 representative on the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Operations Committee, as well as on the 2008 Rose Bowl Game Advisory Committee. In addition, she was nominated for the 2008 University of Washington Distinguished Staff Award and was selected to receive a Pac-10 scholarship to attend the Sports Management Institute in 2008-09.
Prior to coming to the UW, Genise spent three years working with Willingham at Notre Dame, serving in the same capacity as at present. She joined the Irish staff in the summer of 2002 after working several months as the temporary executive assistant to the president of the San Francisco 49ers. Genise's association with Willingham dates back to his tenure as an assistant football coach for the Minnesota Vikings. She worked for the NFL club from 1994 to 1997, first as a public relations intern and then as the coaching/pro personnel assistant. Genise's first stint as a member of Willingham's administrative staff came when he was head coach at Stanford; she worked as his administrative associate there from 1997-2002.
A 1993 graduate of the University of Iowa with a degree in journalism and emphases in sports studies and African-American studies, Genise worked for The Daily Iowan and the Iowa Athletic Department in many different capacities. She then went on to intern with the New England Patriots in 1991 and '92. Erica and her husband, John, are the proud parents of a son, four-year-old Benji.
