Tim Hundley
Tim Hundley

Co-Defensive Coordinator

Tim Hundley is in his fifth year on the UW staff. After spending the last four seasons as defensive coordinator and outside linebackers coach, his role is slightly changed in 2003 as he will share the coordinator duties but will coach all of the linebackers and oversee the punt coverage unit. Upon his arrival at UW, Hundley moved the Huskies to a multiple 3-4 scheme after Washington played primarily an eight-man front for 10 years. The results speak for themselves. Washington has finished first once and second twice in his four seasons on the staff. Hundley's 2000 defense helped the Huskies to the Pac-10 Championship and a Rose Bowl win, where Washington held high-flying Purdue to 24 points. Hundley is one of four Buffaloes assistant coaches who followed Rick Neuheisel to Washington from Colorado. He coached the defensive tackles for the Buffs during the 1996, 1997 and 1998 seasons. Hundley is a familar face in Pac-10 coaching circles. From 1990-95 he was an assistant coach at UCLA, coaching both linebackers and special teams. He spent eight years (1982-89) as an assistant coach at Oregon State. He coached the Beavers’ secondary from 1982-85 and the linebackers from 1986-89. He was the team’s defensive coordinator from 1984-89. A graduate of Western Oregon University, Hundley’s first coaching job was at his alma mater in 1974 as a graduate assistant. He spent the next two seasons (1975-76) at Clackamas (Ore.) Community College as defensive coordinator. In 1977 he joined the coaching staff at Idaho and mentored the Vandal linebackers. The following season he coached Idaho’s running backs, marking the only time in his collegiate coaching career that he has worked on the offensive side of the ball. The following season he moved back to defense and worked as Idaho’s coordinator in addition to coaching the secondary and handling recruiting duties. During the 1980 and 1981 seasons, Hundley was an assistant coach at Nevada-Reno coaching the defensive backs. As a linebacker at Western Oregon University, Hundley was an honorable mention NAIA All-American in 1973. A three-time all-conference pick, he is a member of his district’s NAIA Hall of Fame. He earned his undergraduate degree in education in 1974 and received his master’s degree in education and physical education from Idaho in 1978. Hundley was a standout prep athlete in football, baseball and basketball at Forest Grove (Ore.) High School. Hundley has coached 11 players who went on to the NFL. The list includes three All-Americans: Arnold Ale (UCLA), David Kilson (Nevada) and Sam Merriman (Idaho). He is married to the former Pam Van Doren. The Hundleys have two sons, Jake and Nick, a catcher on the University of Arizona baseball team.
