Husky Rowing Experience: 2000 (Freshman) -- Rowed in the two seat in all-freshman varsity four that won a gold medal at the NCAA Championships ... during the regular season, rowed five seat in the novice eight that posted an undefeated season ... helped Huskies collect a sixth-straight Pac-10 Championship, eighth-straight Opening Day title and third-straight win at the San Diego Crew Classic ... defeated Cal in the annual dual at Redwood Shores and then raced a second time in the varsity four, to collect another win ... named Pac-10 Newcomer of the Year at the conclusion of the season ... trained for three weeks at the ARCO Olympic Training Center in San Diego during the summer. 2001 (Sophomore) -- Rowed four seat in the junior varsity eight that won a silver medal and helped UW win the team title at NCAA Championships ... crew was undefeated all season, earning victories at Pac-10 Championships, Windermere Cup, San Diego Crew Classic and three dual regattas ... rowed five seat all season until NCAA Championships when she moved to four ... earned honorable mention All-Pac-10 Academic honors. 2002 (Junior) -- Rowed five seat in the varsity eight that captured the NCAA National Championship ... member of the varsity eight that went undefeated during the regular season ... won the 11th consecutive gold medal for Washington's varsity eight at Pac-10's ... Helped the Huskies collect victories at the Cal, Wisconsin, Washington State and Oregon duals, and also at the Windermere Cup.
National Team Experience: Earned a spot on the U.S. National Team and rowed, along with Husky teammates Anna Mickelson and Mary Whipple, in the women's eight that finished fourth at the 2001 World Championships in Lucerne, Switzerland ... won U.S. Nationals, versus Canadian National Team ... reunited with the women's eight to compete in and win the 2001 Head of the Charles in Boston.
Personal: Daughter of Janine and Cliff Hurn, who both attended UW ... father was a Husky rower from 1969-72 ... older brother, Hans, was on the UW men's rowing team from 1998-01 ... grandparents also attended UW ... also has a younger brother, Stefan (18) and a younger sister, Erika ... mother is a nurse and father is self-employed ... member of the Kappa Alpha Theta sorority.
I chose Washington because: I wanted to be near my older brother.
The best thing about Seattle is: I can still go home to do my laundry.
The best thing about UW is: Husky football games!
My best race was: At the NCAA Championships in 2002 when we finished first.
