Huskies Sweep Cougars
Men's and women's rowing squads take every race from Washington St.

April 3, 1999

PULLMAN, Wash. - In winter-like conditions, the Washington men's and women's rowing teams won every race in the annual dual regatta with Washington State on the Snake River Saturday afternoon.

The teams awoke to snowfall Saturday morning, with 1-2 inches of new snow on the ground. While it did not snow on the race course, the Snake River located half-an-hour south of Pullman, the water was rough and choppy, with rolling waves at the starting line.

"It was some of the roughest water I've ever seen," UW women's coach Jan Harville said of the Snake River." They were very adverse conditions, but we survived. It was a water fight. In some of the races, we were just beating at the water. You try and be aggressive, but you cant make mistakes. Everyone was rowing in the same water. We had good skills and a good race plan."

The Huskies take a week off before traveling to Wisconsin for a dual regatta with the Badgers, April 17.
