A number of wins at today's Ken Shannon Invite set the Huskies up well for championship season.

Kyle Nielsen Photo Gallery 2011: Earned All-America First Team honors in the javelin, scoring at the NCAA Outdoor Championships for the third straight season, as he placed eighth at nationals with a mark of 234-5 ... wrapped his career as a three-time All-American ... broke the school record with the new implement, tossing the spear 253-feet, 5-inches on his first attempt at NCAA West Prelims to win the event in Eugene ... was the runner-up at the Pac-10 Championships as UW went second, third, and fourth, throwing 237-10 ... started his outdoor season with a victory at the Pepsi Team Invitational, tossing 233-10 ... fifth in the Mt. SAC Relays invitational section with a mark of 234-6 ... took second in the UW-WSU dual as UW swept the top three spots, throwing 239-2 ... got the win at the Ken Shannon Invite, with a then-season-best of 239-11 ... after the season, had the second-best throw of his career at the Canadian Championships, placing second with a mark of 251-6. 2010: The javelin standout turned in another outstanding All-American season, performing at a consistently high level and serving as a leader of the throws group and the javelin crew especially, which had three Pac-10 scorers and Regional participants ... moved up from sixth in 2009 to third at the NCAA Championships in the javelin throw, tossing 241-feet, 6-inches at Nationals in Eugene to earn his second All-America honor ... his mark actually tied for second but he lost the tiebreaker ... his third-place effort was the best by a Husky in the javelin at NCAAs since Bob Rockett took second in 1985 ... finished just ahead of freshman teammate Joe Zimmerman who was fourth ... also took third at the Pac-10 Championships, throwing 239-7 ... qualified for the NCAA finals with little trouble, taking fourth at West Prelims with a mark of 229-7 ... won the Brutus Hamilton Invite with a new lifetime-best throw of 247-1, which puts him second on the UW all-time Top-10 list ... also won the UW-WSU dual meet and the Ken Shannon Invite ... cleared 240 again at the Pepsi Team Invite, taking second at 241-9 ... competed at the Texas Relays, taking sixth in his season-opener at 220-3 ... after NCAAs, extended his personal-best to 248-4 with a win at the CALTAF Track Classic in Calgary, Canada ... second at the Harry Jerome Classic in British Columbia, sending the spear 239-7 ... went 235-2 at the Canadian Championships to finish third. 2009: Earned first career All-America honor in the javelin with a sixth-place finish at the NCAA Championships, best by a Husky since 2000 ... threw 231-feet, 6-inches in the finals at NCAA's on his last attempt, improving to 6th ... won the Canadian National Championship two weeks after NCAA's, going 236-3, the second-best throw of his career ... shot up to No. 3 on the UW all-time Top-10 list with a winning throw of 239-2 at the Jim Click Shootout, the best by a Husky in 18 years ... placed fourth at the Pac-10 Championships, throwing 230-5 ... fifth at West Regionals with a mark of 225-8 ... won the UW-WSU dual meet with a mark of 230-9 ...
