SEATTLE--The Washington men's and women's track teams will kick off their 1998 season at home in Hec Edmundson Pavilion on Sunday by hosting the annual UW Indoor Classic. The non-scored meet will begin at 9 a.m. with the field events. The first running event is scheduled for 10:15 a.m.
Several Northwest colleges are scheduled to compete, including British Columbia, Linfield College, Portland, Seattle Pacific, Simon Fraser and Western Oregon, as well as a handful of Canadian clubs. More than 300 athletes are entered.
Highlighting the Husky entrants are 1996 U.S. Olympian Aretha Hill in the shot put, All-American Brian Madche in the pole vault, senior B.J. Dawson in the 400 meters, JaWarren Hooker in the 60 meters, and sophomore Ben Lindsey in the shot put.
Two other 1996 Olympians also are scheduled to compete. Heptathlete Kelly Blair, a former Oregon standout who lives in Kirkland, is entered in the high jump and 55m hurdles, and Canadian Sara Howell is entered in the 3000 meters.
