Earned four varsity letters under coach Lonnie Slater at Wilson, playing shortstop, third base and pitcher ... only the fourth Wilson player ever to earn a letter as a freshman ... served as team captain as a junior and senior ... as a senior, named the Narrows League MVP, all-area, all-state and the Tacoma News-Tribune Player of the Year ... team won the Narrows League and went to state his sophomore and senior seasons ... batted .560 and had an .817 on-base average as a senior ... in the league championship game his senior year vs. rival Bellarmine Prep, threw a complete-game four-hitter, striking out 11 and also went 2-for-2 with a double, two walks and two runs at the plate ... played two years of varsity football, sharing quarterback duties as a junior, when his team took second in state ... played one year of varsity basketball, helping the team to a fifth-place state finish ... named the English and Math Student of the Year and was once the Tacoma Athletic Commission's Student-Athlete of the Month ... graduated with a 3.86 GPA.
