Josh Scofield, who completed his collegiate career as a pitcher at the UW last season, will join the coaching staff as an undergraduate assistant in 2009.
Scofield, who will earn his bachelor's degree in sociology this spring, pitched for the Huskies last season, appearing in 11 games and compiling an earned run average of 3.93. He came to Washington after pitching one season at Texas Tech. Prior to his time in Lubbock, he played two seasons at the College of Southern Nevada in Henderson, Nev., where he posted a 15-7 record over two years.
Scofield attended Newport High School in nearby Bellevue, Wash., playing first base and pitching. A two-time all-league first baseman, he was selected by the Pirates in the 2004 draft.
Scofield has also been a regular worker at Washington Baseball Camps and helps coach a 16-year old summer team, the Eastlake Tigers.
