Husky Ballpark lighted; baseball team to play first-ever night game Mar. 12.
March 2, 1999
SEATTLE - On Monday, March 1, the Musco Lighting Co. completed the installation of the new lights at Husky Ballpark, the University of Washington's one-year old baseball field.
The new lights will afford the Huskies the opportunity to play night games at home for the first time in history, and will also allow for later afternoon starting times, later practice and eliminate the possibility of games being halted due to darkness. Nighttime starting times on weekdays also cuts down on the players' missed class time and should make for even larger crowds at Husky Ballpark.
This season, most of the Huskies' weekday home games will be played at 6:30 p.m. -- that's 19 games in all. The first night game is Friday, March 12, against George Washington.
