UW's Stoloff Advances to the Women's Consolation Semifinals in Milwaukee Classic

Elm Grove, WI--Senior tennis player Erica Stoloff lost her match in round one of the Milwaukee Tennis Classic to Kansas's Kylie Hunt 6-2, 6-4 on Monday, Jan, 6. Since then Stoloff has beat Gretchen Vanderwall of Wisconsin 6-1, 6-3 and Marquette's Sara Fernandez 6-2, 7-5 to advance to the semifinals of the Consolation bracket. She will face Southern Alabama's Vonda NovaKova tomorrow at 9:00 a.m.

Husky freshman Hrafnhildur Hannesdottir lost her first round match 6-2, 6-0 to Northwestern's Shannon Duffy and her consolation match to Jessie Klick of Marquette 7-5, 6-3. Washington's Kori Sosnowy followed suit with a 6-7 (3), 6-3, 6-3 first round loss to Kentucky's Christy Sigurski. The senior then won her second round consolation match with a 7-6 (4), 6-2 win over Texas's Jennifer Goodwin, but was defeated in the next round by Laura Berendt 6-1, 6-2.

Sophomore Jennifer Svanfeldt was the only Husky to win a first round match on Monday. She had a 6-0, 6-1 win over Butler's Sarah Karges. Svanfeldt suffered a set back in the next round where she had a 6-2, 7-5 loss to Wisconsin's Roz Sweeney.
