David McCreary begins his seventh year as an assistant women's gymnastics coach at Washington in 2011-12. He will continue to oversee the Huskies' efforts on bars while assisting with vault and tumbling.

In 2011, McCreary, along with former assistant Shanna Hannan were named the West Region co-Assistant Coaches of the Year.

McCreary, who joined the Husky program on June 30, 2006, brought over 20 years of elite-level gymnastics coaching experience. Before his arrival in Seattle, he served as head coach and competitive team program director for the club Arizona Sunrays (2000-2005), which produced numerous collegiate gymnasts, including former Husky Jessica Brown. Prior to that, McCreary ran the program for West Valley Gymnastics in Campbell, Calif. from 1996-2000 and owned Gymagic Gymnastics in Sacramento, Calif., from 1987-1996. He and his staff placed several gymnasts on the U.S. national team during his 20-year span, and he also served eight years on the USA Gymnastics Elite Program Committee.

"David McCreary has been coaching gymnastics for over 20 years and is a great technician," said Bowers in 2006. "He also has many contacts on the West Coast that will help us recruit. He is the type of person I was looking for to help us move this program back to the national level. I am very excited to get him."

McCreary was also an assistant coach at the collegiate level at Oregon State University.

McCreary graduated from Illinois State University in 1978.
