Henry Ruggiero
Position: Director of Strength & Conditioning - Olympic Sports
Henry Ruggiero has been an assistant strength and conditioning coach at UW since January of 2009, and in 2012 became the Director of Strength & Conditioning for Olympic Sports. The first to hold this position for the University, Ruggiero hopes to build upon and further the tradition of excellence that is Washington Athletics. In addition to overseeing the Olympic Sports Strength and Conditioning Staff, Ruggiero works directly with the Men's Soccer, Women's Volleyball, Women's Tennis, and Women's Crew. Ruggiero attended Springfield College in Massachusetts from 2004-2008, competing for the men's soccer team. In his time there, he was given the Men's Soccer Strength and Conditioning Athlete of the Year award. He was also a two-time Fall All-Academic Team member. During his summers while an undergrad, Ruggiero worked as a strength and conditioning intern at Boston College, and as a performance coach at Athletic Evolution. After graduation, Ruggiero served a stint as strength and conditioning intern at the University of Southern California, working primarily with the Trojan Football team. He then held the positions of Graduate Assistant and Graduate Researcher at the University of Connecticut starting in 2008 where, in addition to assisting with strength and conditioning, he served as a research assistant for the world-renowned exercise scientist Dr. William Kraemer.
