Complete Resutls

EUGENE, Ore. - Husky alum and current volunteer assistant throws coach Will Conwell finished in sixth-place in the men's discus throw yesterday on the final day of the U.S. Olympic Track and Field Trials at Hayward Field.

Conwell, who competes for Club Northwest, threw 202-feet, 7-inches on his fifth attempt. The mark was just three feet shy of Casey Malone, who secured the third and final spot on the Olympic team with a mark of 205-7.

A 2006 graduate, Conwell made the NCAA Championships in his final season, and his collegiate best of 200-1 ranks sixth in UW history. Conwell works with current UW throws coach Reedus Thurmond, who also competed in the discus prelims.

Conwell is the husband of former Husky Kate Soma, who tied for 13th in the women's pole vault earlier in the week.

With the Trials now at an end, pole vaulter Brad Walker and discus thrower Aretha Thurmond will advance on to the Olympic Games in Beijing, China starting in August. All told, 14 athletes with Washington affiliations competed in the Trials.
