SEATTLE - For the fourth straight year, the Washington baseball team will play at Safeco Field, home of the Seattle Mariners, this season. The Huskies will take on Stanford on Saturday, May 1 at 6:30 p.m. Earlier that same day, the Seattle Mariners will play host to the Texas Rangers in a 12:10 p.m. game.
The last three years, the Huskies have played host to Oregon State (in 2007 and 2009), Arizona (2008) and Arizona State (2009) at Safeco.
"We're grateful to the Mariners for having us back again in 2010," said first-year Husky head coach Lindsay Meggs. "Everyone on the team is really looking forward to the privilege of playing in a big league ballpark. It should be a lot of fun."
In 2007, the Dawgs beat the defending national champion Beavers, 6-2, in front of 10,421 fans, a Pac-10 record for a conference game. OSU went on to win a second straight College World Series that year. In 2008, the Dawgs beat Arizona, 1-0, on a two-hit, 15-strikeout performance from starting pitcher Nick Haughian. That game was played before a crowd of 5,187.
Last year, the Huskies played a pair of games at Safeco, playing single games vs. Oregon State and Arizona State. In all, nearly 24,000 fans have attended the four games.
