WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Washington junior third baseman Matt Hague has been named the Pacific-10 Conference Baseball Player of the Week and UCLA freshman left-handed pitcher Gavin Brooks has been named Pitcher of the Week for May 23-29, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.

Hague, of Kent, Wash., went 5-for-12 (.417) with a double, two home runs and six RBI In the Huskies' two wins and one loss vs. Cal over the weekend. His three-run homer in the first inning of Saturday's game (he was batting third in the inning) gave the Huskies a lead they never surrendered. Sunday, he wrapped up a 4-for-5 game (2 singles, 1 double, 1 HR) with a solo homer in the eighth that tied the game at 4-4. The Huskies scored a second run in the inning to win, 5-4. He also walked three times for a .533 on-base average and slugged an even 1.000.

Brooks, of Vista, Calif., pitched his first collegiate complete game Sunday, May 28, limiting Oregon State to two runs (one earned) and three hits in the Bruins' 5-2 victory. As UCLA looked for their elusive 30th win of the season, Brooks dominated the defending national champions, striking out seven and issuing just one walk to earn his fifth victory. Midway through the contest, Brooks retired 13 consecutive batters and did not give up a hit until there were two outs in the top of the fifth inning.

The Player of the Week honor is the second of Hague's career, while it is the 54th such honor for Washington. The Pitcher of the Week honor is the first for Brooks and marks marks the 40th selection all-time for UCLA. The four Pitcher of the Week selections for the Bruins this season marks the most for UCLA since the 2000 season when they garnered five weekly honors.
