Fourty-two players, including 15 newcomers, reported today for the start of the University of Washington baseball team's fall practice season.

The Huskies will practice for four weeks before shutting down until the spring. Washington, under 11th-year head coach Ken Knutson, will open the season next February 7 at a tournament at Pepperdine. Last year, the UW finished third in the Pac-10 and lost to Rice in a regional championship game in Houston.

The list of returners includes two players that were selected in the draft following last season, but have decided to return to college for their senior season. Senior shortstop Tila Reynolds, who has started the last three seasons at short, returns despite being drafted by the Brewers in the 13th round last June. Also returning is senior starting pitcher Sean White, a late-round selection last June who went on to an outstanding summer in the Cape Cod League.

The Huskies also return starters at first base (sophomore Kyle Larsen), second base (junior Greg Isaacson), right field (sophomore Taylor Johnson) and catcher (sophomore Aaron Hathaway). Junior Clay Johnson returns to a starting pitcher spot, while junior Jefferson Thiel, who missed all of last season after elbow surgery, returns to vie with Hathaway for the catching position he held in 2001. Additionally, juniors Mike Wagner, John Otness and Brandon Jacobson were semi-regulars in the starting lineup a year ago.

Among the incoming players are two with brothers on last year's team. Freshman Simi Reynolds is Tila Reynolds' younger brother while Matt Tucker is the younger brother of departed senior Michael Done, a three-year starter at third base.
