TEMPE, Ariz. - The Washington baseball team went back and forth with 19th-ranked Arizona State, but the Sun Devils emerged with a 9-6 victory over the Huskies in the final game of a Pac-12 series Sunday at Packard Stadium.

Arizona State improved to 35-18 overall and 17-10 in the Pac-12 Conference while Washington fell to 27-24 and 11-16 in the conference.

Washington held leads in the fourth and sixth innings and drew even at 6-6 in the seventh, but the Devils got a run in the bottom of the seventh to take a lead for the final time.

ASU relief pitcher Robert Ravago (4-0) picked up the win despite allowing one run on three hits over two-thirds of an inning. Husky reliever Tyler Kane (5-2) took the loss, giving up four runs (only one of them earned) over two innings.

Freshman Branden Berry led the Husky offense, going 2-for-4 with a double, a triple and two runs batted in. Classmate Robert Pehl was 2-for-5 with an RBI.

ASU broke through for the game's first run in the third inning. After singles from Andrew Aplin and Deven Marrero put runners at the corners with one out, a sacrifice fly from Joey DeMichele scored Aplin to give the Sun Devils a 1-0 lead.

However, the Huskies answered quickly, moving in front in the top of the fourth. After Jacob Lamb and Chase Anselment were hit by pitches, Berry smashed a triple to the gap in right-center field, driving in two to give Washington a 2-1 lead.

In the meantime, the Devils continued to collect hits, but Washington used double plays in the first, third and fourth innings to limit ASU to just one run on seven hits over the first four frames.

In the fifth, Husky center fielder Jayce Ray walked and eventually scored on a two-out, infield single from Caleb Brown to increase the UW advantage to 3-1.

ASU got one back in the bottom of the fifth as Marrero tripled and scored on a sacrifice fly from DeMichele to cut the lead to 3-2.

But Washington struck back in the top of the sixth when Berry doubled and scored on a double from Pehl, moving the UW out to a 4-2 lead.

In the bottom of the sixth, ASU took the lead back with four runs. After loading the bases on an error, a single and a walk, Kasey Coffman singled to drive in one. After a second out, Marrero came through with a three-run double to left-center, putting the Devils on top, 6-4.

Washington drew even at 6-6 in the top of the seventh on back-to-back, two-out RBI singles from B.K. Santy and Ty Afenir.

But the Devils took back the lead at 7-6 in the bottom of the seventh as James McDonald tripled and scored on a sacrifice fly from Nathaniel Causey. ASU added a pair of insurance runs in the eighth on an RBI double from DeMichele and an RBI single from Abe Ruiz.

The regular season comes to an end this week as the Huskies play four games. Tuesday, the UW faces Seattle University at Bannerwood Park in Bellevue. Then Friday through Sunday, Washington State comes to Husky Ballpark for a three-game series.
