SEATTLE - Six Washington football players, led by first-team selections Brendan Lopez and Greg Walker, were honored today as the Pac-12 Conference announced its 2011 All-Academic teams.

Walker and Lopez were named to the first team while three Huskies earned second-team accolades: Drew Schaefer, Cort Dennison and William Chandler. Erik Folk received honorable mention.

Lopez, a senior long snapper from Bellevue, Wash., boasts a 3.64 grade point average in neurobiology. A former walk-on who earned a scholarship prior to the 2010 season,Lopez has handled all of the Huskies' snapping duties the last two years.

Walker, a safety from Bellflower, Calif., is perhaps the Huskies' top special teams player. Walker, a biology major with a 3.41 GPA, has played in all but one game of the last three seasons and has 11 tackles this season.

Schaefer, a junior center from Sammamish, Wash., made the second team thanks to a 3.31 grade point average as a communications major. He has started the last 27 games on the Husky offensive line.

Dennison, a senior linebacker and captain from Salt Lake City, is the Pac-12's leading tackler with 93 total stops this season. A communications major with a 3.05 GPA, he'd earned honorable mention All-Academic honors each of the last two seasons.

Chandler, the Huskies' sophomore holder from Sammamish, Wash., has handled all of the holding duties for Washington this season after taking over during fall camp. He has notched a 3.83 cumulative GPA as a business/accounting major.

Folk, a senior from Woodland Hills, Calif., earned honorable mention thanks to a 3.31 GPA as a business administration/marketing major. The UW's third-year starting kicker has made 10 of 12 field goal attempts this year, including 9 of 11 from 40 yards and longer, and is a perfect 107-for-107 on extra point attempts in his career.
