The outdoor track season is already underway for many teams and Washington will join the fray this weekend as it travels to the Stanford Invitational at the Cardinal's Cobb Field. The Huskies will be traveling their top sprinters and hurdlers to the meet, which begins at 11 a.m. Friday and runs through 5 p.m. on Saturday afternoon.

A notriously fast meet for distance runners, the Stanford Invitational attracts stellar fields for the mid-distance and distance events and a number of marks posted this weekend will likely stand up all the way until the NCAA Preliminary rounds in late May.

Friday will feature most of the distance events, including the 1,500-meters, the steeplechase, 5,000-meters, and 10,000-meters. Friday will also have 400-meter dashes and hurdles. Saturday's track events include the 4x1 and 4x4 relays, as well as 100m and 200m dash finals, short hurdle finals, and the 800-meter runs.

Coming off All-America honors just two weeks ago at the NCAA Indoor Championships, senior Katie Follett and sophomore Mel Lawrence will make the Bay Area trip. Both are entered in the top section of the women's 1,500-meters. Follett is the two-time defending Pac-10 Champ at the distance and just finished second in the mile at NCAA Indoors in Fayetteville. Lawrence has just one collegiate 1,500m under her belt and will be looking for a PR.

Joining the two in the top heat will be senior Kailey Campbell, making her official 2010 track debut after redshirting the indoor season. Campbell made it to NCAAs outdoors last year in the 1,500m. Freshman Justine Johnson will compete in the fourth heat and Kayla Evans and Courtney Lightfoot are in heat seven.

Junior Kenna Patrick and freshmen Lindsay Flanagan, Grace Green, and Breanna Huschka are entered in the 5k.

In the men's distance events, two-time NCAA qualifier Jake Schmitt will run his first 10,000-meters of the season in the fastest heat. Alec Bromka and Jordan Swarthout will be in heat two of the 10k. At 5,000-meters, freshman James Cameron, sophomores Cameron Quackenbush and Max O'Donoghue-McDonald will all compete, while redshirt frosh Greg Drosky competes in the steeplechase.

In the men's 1,500-meters, junior Michael Miller, and Charlie Williams, who could make his first appearance since the fall of 2008 after battling back from injury. Sophomore Ryan Styrk will also head around two loops of the track in the 800-meters.

The sprints will see senior Falesha Ankton leading the way on the women's side, as she competes in the 100m hurdles and will likely run a relay or two as the Huskies have teams entered in both the 4x1 and 4x4. Ankton ran a 60m hurdles PR during the indoor season while competing unattached, and she finished her indoor campaign at the USA Indoor Championships in New Mexico.

Junior Dominique Lauderdale will be in the blocks for the 100m dash along with freshman Johanna Carr, and sophomore Bianca Greene will run the 200. The 400-meters will feature sophomore Amber Finley, freshman Laura Schmitt, and junior transfer Nikki Codd making her Husky debut. Senior Syreeta Martin and true freshman Skye Atchley are both set to go in the 400m hurdles.

True freshman James Alaka will get his first crack at the 100-meters on Friday. The former England junior champ ran the fifth-best 60m dash time in school history during the indoor season and scored nine points for UW at the MPSF Championships. He'll be joined by sophomore Ryan Hamilton, the anchor on UW's 2008 Pac-10 4x100m relay champs. Another true freshman, Colton Dunn, will run the 200m dash and junior Miles Timpe will compete at 400-meters. Timpe will also double up in the 400-meter hurdles, which he has run at Pac-10s the past two years, and true freshman Shayne Moore rounds out the group, competing in the 100m hurdles.
