SEATTLE - The Washington baseball team belted five home runs en route to a 14-7 victory over Puget Sound Wednesday night in a non-conference game at Husky Ballpark. The game was originally scheduled for Tuesday night, but was postponed by rain.

With the win, the Huskies (14-7 overall, 2-4 Pac-10) broke a three-game losing streak, with all three losses coming on the road at the hands of No. 1 Stanford.

Jay Garthwaite, Chad Yarbrough, Tyler Davidson, Tila Reynolds and Ben Miller all hit home runs for the Huskies, who scored in each of the first four innings. Yarbrough's homer was the first career hit for the sophomore catcher from Seattle's Franklin High.

Freshman Jeff Petersen (1-0), in his first college start, took the win for the Huskies, allowing three runs over three innings. UPS starter Jason Gragg (0-1) surrendered six earned runs over three innings in the loss. UPS fell to 10-14 on the season.

Right fielder Willie Keith led the Loggers' offense, going 2-for-3 with a solo homer in the second inning. Olin Wick batted 2-for-5 with three runs batted in.

Miller went 2-for-4 with a homer and two stolen bases for Washington. Freshman second baseman John Otness went 3-for-4 with a double, a steal and two runs and Bryan Johnson batted 3-for-3 with two RBI and two runs scored. The Huskies used 17 position players in the game and three of the four UW pitchers were making either their first or second career appearances.

The Huskies return to Pac-10 play this Friday through Sunday when California comes to Husky Ballpark for a three-game series. Friday's opener begins at 6:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday's games are slated for 1:00 p.m. starts. All three games will air on KSRB AM-1150.
