WALNUT CREEK, Calif. -- Talia Walton was tabbed the Pac-12 Freshman of the Week with the Pac-12 Conference office announcement of the Pac-12 Women's Basketball Players of the Week for the week of Dec. 31 - Jan. 6.
Walton was tabbed as the conference's top freshman after she led Washington to a sweep of the Arizona schools over the weekend as the Dawgs improved to 10-3 overall. Cassie Harberts of USC was named Pac-12 Player of the Week.
The Federal Way, Wash., native tied her career high with 19 points, including 2-3 from downtown in a 77-74 win over Arizona State. Walton also blocked a career-best five shots in the game, adding to her Pac-12 lead.
Against Arizona, Walton set a new career high with 20 points including another career best with nine field goals, putting the ball on the floor and scoring on pull-up jumpers and getting all the way to the rim. She also grabbed 13 rebounds against Arizona, another career best.
The Dawgs entered the game with the worst rebounding margin in the conference, but her effort helped Washington outrebound Arizona, 49-40.
Washington's 2-0 start in the Pac-12 is the first time since 2006-07 and the win over ASU was just the second in the past 17 meetings.
The Huskies hit the road this weekend to face USC on Friday at 6 p.m., followed by No. 16 UCLA on Sunday at 2 p.m.
