PORTLAND, Ore. - The 24th-ranked Washington baseball team got four home runs and a solid starting performance from starter Clay Johnson to hand Portland a 10-3 loss Wednesday in the second of a two-game, non-conference series at Pilot Stadium.

The win was the Huskies' 14th in their last 15 games.

Johnson, who hadn't earned a win since beating then-No. 11 Houston on Feb. 9, improved to 2-2 on the year with a six-inning outing. He allowed three runs on six hits while striking out eight.

Washington (18-7) opened the scoring with two runs in the first. After two quick outs, first baseman Kyle Larsen reached first when UP pitcher Daniel Knox missed the bag after taking a throw from the first baseman on a ground ball. Husky left fielder Chad Boudon followed the error with his seventh home run of the year, giving the Huskies a 2-0 lead and moving into a share of the team lead for homers.

After a third Husky run in the second inning, Washington opened its lead to 6-0 when catcher Ben Johnson belted a three-run homer. The home run was the first hit of the year for Johnson, who'd had only 13 previous at bats in his backup role.

Portland (4-20) got on the board in the third inning on a two-run homer from right fielder Kory Casto, his fifth of the year. After another UP run cut the Huskies' lead to 6-3, UW third baseman John Otness extended it to 8-3 with a two-run homer in the seventh, his first of the year. After a walk, freshman center fielder Brent Lillibridge belted a two-run homer, the first of his career, making it 10-3.

Knox (0-5), who gave up 10 runs (eight earned) over six and two-thirds innings, suffered the loss for the Pilots. Center fielder Tyler Perkins had four hits and two runs in five at bats to lead the Portland offense.

The Huskies open the Pac-10 Conference season this Friday through Sunday at No. 8 Stanford. All three games will air live on KKNW AM-1150, and via the internet at
