SEATTLE - A year ago the University of Washington and Eastern Washington University agreed to play the first-ever football game between the two schools. Today, the Huskies and Eagles announced that a second game will be played at Husky Stadium on Sept. 6, 2014.
"I think that the opportunity to showcase local football talent at Husky Stadium will be exciting for this region," said Director of Athletics Scott Woodward. "We look forward to playing Eastern Washington and will enjoy the chance to engage in a friendly rivalry with a strong local program."
The first game was announced on Oct. 6, 2009 and will be played Sept. 3, 2011 at Husky Stadium. That game will be the home and season opener for the Huskies.
The Eagles have been very successful in the Big Sky Conference and as a member of the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS), making seven playoff appearances and winning four Big Sky Championships.
Washington began playing football in 1889 and EWU in 1908.
The 2011 game replaces a home-and-away series against Brigham Young University that was originally scheduled for the 2011 and 2012 seasons.
