BELMONT, Calif. - Washington's men's and women's varsity eight crews each won two races and two Husky boats were undefeated this weekend during the two-day Windermere Collegiate Crew Classic at Redwood Shores.

The Huskies' 10th-ranked women's varsity eight registered a pair of impressive victories, defeating No. 16 Boston University Saturday morning and clocking a time of 6-minutes, 37.48 seconds in a 26-second triumph over Syracuse on Sunday. The fourth-ranked Ohio State crew beat UW by three seconds Saturday afternoon.

The boat was directed for the first time by sophomore coxswain Alysha Koorji and included four new rowers who did not represent UW's varsity eight at last year's NCAA Championships.

Washington's varsity eight men won both races Saturday, defeating Penn by nearly three seconds and Northeastern by nearly four. The Huskies posted a time of 5:45.05 in a losing effort Sunday as Stanford covered the 2,000-meter course in 5:42.02.

Senior coxswain Adrian Andrews was one of five athletes who did not compete with UW's top men's crew at the 2005 IRA Championships.

The Henley-style, match-racing format was used for this weekend's regatta in the Bay Area. Rather than rowing the course alongside several other boats as is customary, each crew competed head-to-head with just one other boat. The Collegiate Classic was hosted for the fourth year by the same real estate company that has been a 20-year sponsor of the Windermere Cup, Washington's annual Opening Day regatta that takes place May 6 in Seattle.

Washington's junior varsity eight women posted a perfect 3-0 record during the weekend. The women were not tested as their closest margin of victory was 10 seconds against Ohio State, Saturday afternoon. The Husky women's second varsity defeated Boston University by over 27 seconds to open the regatta and outraced Syracuse by 33 seconds on Sunday.

The men's jayvee boat beat UC-Davis by nine seconds before losing a close battle with Northeastern Saturday afternoon. The Huskies from Boston crossed the finish line 1.3-seconds ahead of the Northwest Huskies. On Sunday, UW overcame a two-second deficit after the opening 500 meters to register a five-second win over Stanford.

Washington's formidable freshman eight men's crew swept both of its races one week after winning the team's Class Day race for the first time since 1947. The Huskies cruised to a 12-second victory Sunday over Penn, one day after out-racing the junior varsity entry from UC-Davis by a 33-second margin.

The UW women's novice boat split two races against its Bay Area rivals. The Huskies rebounded from a loss to California on Saturday by finishing four seconds ahead of Stanford on Sunday.

Several Washington crews will be in action, Saturday, April 1 at the annual Husky Invitational on the Montlake Cut.
