SEATTLE-- While fifteen team members compete in a three-day battle in California, the rest of the Husky track team members took on Northwest neighbors in dual meets at the Pelluer Invitational in Cheney, Wash., Friday.
The Huskies won seven of their eight dual meets, a welcome improvement from the 0-4 dual records the teams sported entering the weekend.
On the women's side, the relay teams both brought home event titles, including the 4x400-meter team that set a new Pelluer Invitational record of 3:50.02. Senior Chelsie Pentz (Silverdale, Wash.) won both the 100 and 200-meter dash events, while sophomore Tesha Moore (Everett, Wash.) won the 400m dash to round out UW's sprint victories. Junior Heather Reichmann took the javelin title, while senior Sarah Peterson (Santa Fe, N.M.) captured the 100-meter hurdles crown.
On the men's side, the underclassmen stepped up notching several top placings and claiming three dual wins, despite the absence of four NCAA qualifiers.
Freshman Marc James (Colorado Springs, Colo.) was the lone event winner for the Husky win, taking the 110m hurdles title. Freshman Cristian Adams (Lakewood, Wash.) earned runner-up spots in both the 400-meter and 200-meter dashes, while freshman Brad Goodrich (Maple Valley, Wash.) took the No. 2 spot in the 400m hurdles. Senior Greg Barber (McKinney, TX) was second in the 110m hurdles, as was sophomore Mat Schwinn (Castle Rock, Wash.) in the discus.
