BELMONT, Calif. - Washington wrapped up the second day of competition at the Windermere Real Estate Rowing Classic by sweeping all six of its races this afternoon, including a Husky men's varsity eight win over second-ranked Stanford and a Husky women's varsity eight victory over 12th-ranked Central Florida.
The Husky men finished the two days of racing with two undefeated crews, as the top-ranked men's varsity eight picked up a win over the hosting Stanford squad with a time of 5:47.45. The six-second win over the second-ranked Cardinal was the third victory for UW over a ranked crew this weekend, after defeating No. 8 Wisconsin and No. 11 Trinity yesterday. The men's freshman eight also won each of its three races, completing the 2,000-meter course in 6-minutes and 13.11 seconds today over Stanford's freshman crew that finished the race nearly 20 seconds later. The men's junior varsity boat captured its second win of the weekend, knocking off the Cardinal with a time of 5:59.86.
On the women's side, the 19th-ranked Huskies bested 12th-ranked Central Florida by more than four seconds. The Huskies pulled out to a 4.28 second lead in the first 500 meters and maintained the margin to secure the win over the Golden Knights. The women's j.v. eight and the coxed four also picked up victories today, lifting each boat to a two-win performance this weekend. The junior varsity entry posted a five second-win, while the coxed four's time of 8:05.10 bested Central Florida's 8:09.95.
Next Saturday, Washington will be back in Seattle for the first of three-consecutive home events, as the Huskies host Oregon State in a 9 a.m. dual along the Montlake Cut. On April 28, UW will host Cal, before the Huskies welcome Purdue and Waikato for the Windermere Cup on May 5.
