PORTLAND, Ore. - A six-run fifth inning, highlighted by senior Curt Rindal's fifth home run of the season, led the Washington baseball team to a 14-5 win over Portland Tuesday at Joe Etzel Field.

The win was the ninth in a row for the Huskies, who improved to 11-8 on the season. Portland dropped to 10-10.

The Huskies trailed 3-2 before Rindal's two-out, two-run homer to left, his fifth of the season, put them on top in the fifth. After the homer, the next six Huskies reached base, two of them forcing in runs on a walk and a hit batter. Bradley Boyer wrapped up the inning with a two-run single. Ten of the Huskies' first 11 runs came with two outs.

Husky reliever Nick Hagadone (1-1) entered the game in the fifth and threw threw scoreless innings for the win, allowing a single while striking out three. Pilots reliever Pat Geraghty (0-1) suffered the loss, allowing four runs in two-thirds of an inning.

Washington jumped out to the lead in the first when junior right fielder Andy Lentz belted a one-out solo home run, his first of the season. Portland, however, went in front with two runs in the bottom of the first. Justin Pierce and Danny Meier each drew walks and scored on a single from Chase Powell and a groundout from Adam Kerr.

The Huskies tied the game a 2-2 in the second as Jake Rife singled, stole second and came across on a single from Michael Burgher. But, in the fourth, the Pilots went on top when Chase Powell was hit by a pitch and eventually scored on a Rocky Gale groundout.

Washington added three more in the fifth, including two on a Brian Pearl double, and another three in the seventh.

Rindal, Rife and Lentz all ended the day with three hits. Rindal drove in three runs while Pearl and Boyer had two RBI apiece.

Portland's Danny Meier hit a solo homer and Jesse Rodgers had an RBI double in the eighth to wrap up the Pilots' scoring.

The Huskies continue their spring break trip tomorrow when they face Gonzaga at 3:00 p.m. in Spokane. Friday through Sunday, the UW begins Pac-10 play at Washington State.
