WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - The Pac-10 today announced its track and field All-Academic selections, with twenty-seven Huskies honored for their scholastic achievements, and six Huskies earning a spot on the first or second teams.

Nine of the UW selections competed at the NCAA West Prelims two weeks ago in Eugene, and Jeremy Taiwo, Scott Roth, and Joe Zimmerman will all be in action this week at the NCAA Championships in Des Moines, Iowa.

To be eligible for the Pac-10 All-Academic team, athletes must carry at least a 3.0 cumulative grade point average and be in their second year of residence at their current school.

Taiwo was voted to the first team for the first time in his career. The Pac-10 decathlon champion owns a 3.66 GPA in international studies. On the second team was sophomore Jimmy Brookman, who was fourth at Pac-10s in the javelin before an elbow injury ended his season early. Brookman maintains a 3.54 GPA in business administration.

Christine Babcock, a sophomore athletically but a junior academically, was a first team selection on the women's side with a 3.93 GPA in early childhood and family studies. Also earning her first All-Academic acclaim was sophomore javelin thrower Ally Mueller, who has a 3.95 grade point average in pre-health sciences.

Making the women's second team was junior pole vaulter Taylor Fjeran, her second straight selection. She has a 3.72 GPA in ecology, evolution, and conservation. Redshirt freshman distance runner Alison Ponce also earned second team status with a 3.85 GPA in pre-science.
