Washington vs. Oregon Coach and Player Quotes

COACH June Daugherty General Comments: We really dug ourselves an unbelievable hole and hats off to Oregon for how well they played defensivley, they're so big. Their front line, Richards and all those guys, are very tough to score on. I thought they really pulled their health well and they didn't allow us to get the penetration that we normally get. They were just huge on the glass and it makes it tough for us offensivley when those things happen. We just kept talking about stay with it, we're going to get a run and our player to player defense was pretty good to us in the second half and Jill Bell just took it up to a different level and it was fun to see it all happen.

On Jill Bell getting tired: She asked to come out, and twice I asked her if she was ready to go back and she said no but I put her in anyways and she responded. She was a little winded and we run those sets to isolate her in the post and she did a good job of seeing if they were going to double team her at that point and try and find the open player. I thought not just her scoring but her rebounding was phenomenal, she got the stops that we could not get the first half against their size.

On Jill's knee problems: Jill had knee surgery in September she has had numerous knee surgeries. She is just one of those kids who doesn't have good knees, but tonight they were real good to her.

On if other teams are overlooking Jill Bell: Lately all the coaches are watching her statistics, they see they're coming up. She played real well against Oregon, down there, but we're hoping they don't see it and she keeps doing what she's doing because obviously she was the difference tonight.

On what June talked about at half time: It just seemed like we weren't fighting hard, we were getting frustrated on how well Oregon was doing and not converting it into our energy. We made some adjustments defensivly and we just kept saying if we go out there and fight hard and leave it on the court we'll be happy, but if we don't go out there and fight and play team basketball we're going to be disappointed.

On strategy second half: Defensivly we went almost exclusivly player to player and they scored on a backdoor early and an open shot just because we got caught on a screen but after that I thought we really settled down started passing lanes and were able to push them out. It elongated passing lane in the post and allowed us to get around, Richards was killing us. Offensivly we wanted to move more and try to draw a kick. Then obviously once Bell went off it was just give it to Jill, she had the hot hand, so who wouldn't?

Emily Florence On Jill Bell: I always knew she's an unbelievable athlete. In the practices no one can stop her, she has an amazing jump shot and she's just an amazing shooter. She told me because I was getting caught down in the post a little and Oregon has such a big inside game, she said I got you and she just stepped up and was a huge leader tonight and took over the ball game.

Jill Bell On how she felt after the game: It's just really a blur right now, it hasn't sunk in! I'm just really glad we beat Oregon and came back for that win.

On what you think when you're down by 15: I was just thinking on how I could bring us back, I just tried focusing on rebounding and getting those boards so we could get to the other side and try to get the ball in the basket.

On knees: I just have a little trouble with my knees but I've been getting training and rehab and what we've been doing recently I think has really been helping. Hopefully it will continue helping in Pac10s and post season. I think I've had about three or four surgeries.
