Seattle - The Washington Husky women's basketball team (18-10) was named a No. 9 seed for the 2006 NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament on Monday afternoon. The Huskies will face No. 8 seeded Minnesota (19-9) in the first round of the San Antonio Regional on Saturday, March 18, at Memorial Gymnasium on the campus of Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tenn. Game time is set for 11 a.m. CST/9 a.m. PST.
NCAA first round tickets are $20 and available by calling the Husky Ticket Office at 206-543-2200. The deadline for purchasing tickets is noon on Wednesday. Second round tickets will be available only if the Huskies advance.
The winner of Saturday's game will face the winner of the first round contest between No. 1 seed LSU (27-3) and No. 16 Florida Atlantic (20-10), Monday, March 20, in Nashville.
This will be the 15th time the Huskies have earned a bid to the NCAA Tournament and their first appearance since 2003. Head Coach June Daugherty has led Washington to the tournament now five times in 10 seasons as the Husky head coach.
The Huskies were one of six teams named to the NCAA Tournament from the Pac-10, a conference record. Also among the 64-team field are No. 3 seed Stanford (San Antonio Region), No. 4 seed Arizona State (Albuquerque Region), No. 5 seed UCLA (Cleveland Region), No. 8 seed USC (Bridgeport Region) and No. 10 seed Cal (Albuquerque Region).
