THIS WEEKEND: The Washington baseball team (16-9 overall, 3-3 in the Pac-12) begins a busy stretch of home games this week when sixth-ranked Stanford (17-6 overall, 2-4 in the Pac-12) comes to Husky Ballpark for a three-game series. Like all of the Pac-12 series this week, the Huskies and Cardinal will play Thursday through Saturday, due to Easter on Sunday. First pitch at Husky Ballpark is 5:00 p.m. PT on Thursday and Friday and 1:00 p.m. on Sunday. The UW took one of three last weekend at then-No. 22 Oregon State while Stanford comes to Seattle having been swept by Arizona last weekend in Palo Alto. The Cardinal beat Saint Mary's in a non-conference game on Monday. While the Cardinal are ranked No. 6 in both the Baseball America and USA Today polls, the Huskies received three votes from the coaches for a second straight week and are ranked 38th by Perfect Game. Live stats and video for all three games are available at gohuskies.com. The easiest way to find the links is to go to the baseball schedule page at gohuskies.com and click on that day's game for the links. Washington will start junior right-hander Aaron West in Thursday's series opener. On Friday, freshman right Tyler Davis will start for the UW and, on Saturday, sophomore RHP Austin Voth will get the ball for the Dawgs. Here's a look at this weekend's games:

COACH MEGGS: Lindsay Meggs is in his third season as head coach at Washington. This spring, one of his chief accomplishments has come to fruition with the opening of the new baseball team building at Husky Ballpark - a clubhouse, coaches' offices, training room, equipment room and donor area overlooking the field. Meggs came to the UW after having spent the previous three seasons at Indiana State and the 13 prior to that at Chico State, where he won NCAA Division II national championships in 1997 and 1999. He helped Chico to the D-II College World Series seven times and won the league eight times. At Indiana State, he was named Missouri Valley Conference Coach of the Year in 2009 after guiding the Sycamores to a second-place finish, their highest since 1998. Currently, he boasts a 676-381-4 record over 18 seasons as a four-year college head coach. He'd previously served as head coach at Long Beach City College and Oxnard College. Born in San Jose and a graduate of Saratoga (Calif.) High, Meggs played four seasons as the starting third baseman at UCLA. He was drafted by the Brewers in 1983, and then again by the Royals after his senior year in 1984. Meggs is joined by assistant coaches Dave Nakama, Dave Dangler and Jordon Twohig.

DAWG RETURN TO SAFECO FIELD: Washington will play at Safeco Field, home of the Seattle Mariners, for the sixth straight season when the Huskies host UCLA on May 11. It will be the Dawgs' seventh game at Safeco, as they played two games there in 2009, and will mark the first time the Huskies have taken on the Bruins at the big-league field. Washington first played at Safeco Field in 2007, when 10,421 fans watched the Huskies beat defending NCAA champion Oregon State, 6-2. Since then, the Huskies have played Arizona (2008), Oregon State and Arizona State (2009), Stanford (2010) and Oregon State (2011) at the Mariners' home.

STINGY DAWGS: Twenty-five games into the season, Washington's pitching statistics are impressive, as the Huskies' 3.30 team ERA and .222 opponent batting average would indicate. But as the season has gone on, those numbers have gotten more and more impressive. Since returning from their opening series at San Diego State (where the UW won two of three), the Husky pitching staff has a 2.81 ERA and opponents are batting just .204 against them over 22 games. Since returning from a four-game trip to UC Irvine and CS Northridge (where the UW won three of four), the UW staff ERA is a miniscule 2.34 and opponents are hitting just .194 over 17 games. Since that Northridge game, the UW has used 14 different pitchers, and just one of them has an ERA over 3.86 over that stretch, while 11 of them have ERAs under 2.58. As for the Husky offense, it's been solid over those spans as well as the UW has batted .280 since opening weekend (76 points higher than the opponents) and .280 since the CS Northridge game (86 points higher).

THEY'RE COMING FROM ALL OVER: The 2012 Husky baseball roster includes players from seven different states. Of the 35 players on the official roster entering the season, 18 are from Washington, 11 are from California, two are from Idaho and there is one player each from Arizona, Colorado, Hawai'i and Indiana. Washington's baseball roster has traditionally been heavily dominated by in-state players. Of the 18 players from the Evergreen State, 17 come from west of the Cascade Mountains, (the western half of the state).
