PRINCETON, N.J. - Three members of the Washington men's crew were invited to attend the U.S. U23 National Team selection camp. Senior Jessiah Johnson, junior Blaise Didier and sophomore Hans Struzyna were among the 24 athletes nationwide selected to compete for spots on the team.

The men's U23 National Team Camp will be held in Oklahoma City beginning June 12. The camp will select the open men's eight, straight four, four (plus coxswain), quadruple scull, pair and double scull, all of which will compete at the U23 Trials July 6-10 at Mercer Lake in West Windsor, NJ.

The selected athletes can then move on to the U23 World Championship to be held in Racice, Czech Republic July 23-26.

Johnson, a senior from Mercer Island, Wash. is a three-year member of the top varsity boat, helping the Huskies to two national titles at the Intercollegiate Rowing Association (IRA) Championship regatta. Johnson has rowed in the bow pair this season, racing to a win over then-No. 1 California at home on April 25 and his third-straight Windermere Cup. Johnson has previous international rowing experience, taking fifth place in the men's eight at the 2004 Junior World Championships in Banyoles, Spain and earning gold the next year in the 2005 Junior World Championships in Brandenburg, Germany. The geology major also placed fifth in the men's eight at the 2006 U23 World Championship in Hazewinkel, Belgium and fourth in the 2007 U23 World Championship in Strathclyde, Scotland.

Didier won gold at the 2008 U23 World Championship in Brandenburg, Germany and was named Pac-10 Newcomer of the Year in his sophomore season, 2007-08. Didier rowed with the varsity in 2008, helping the Huskies to a No. 1 ranking, an undefeated regular season and Pac-10 gold. This year, Didier has competed in the four-seat of the second varsity boat, earning wins over California, Oregon State and Brazil's U23 team and earning silver at the San Diego Crew Classic. The junior from San Francisco, Calif. also helped the Huskies to a win in the Cascade Cup at the Opening Day races May 2.

Struzyna is one of two sophomores in the varsity boat this season, helping the Huskies defeat then-No. 1 California on Montlake Cut on April 25. Struzyna, who hails from Kirkland, Wash., stroked the freshman eight last season that went undefeated in the regular season and won the Pac-10 championship. Struzyna then earned a silver medal at the IRA Championship, helping the Huskies to repeat as the Ten Eyck Trophy winner for team points. He was a national champion in the men's eight at the 2007 Club National Championship and in the men's pair at the 2008 Club National Championship.

The announcement of the men's camp selection follows last month's announcement of the women's selection camp, which included Huskies Alison Browning, Adrienne Martelli, Jennifer Park and Ariana Tanimoto.

Washington's rowing teams are back in action next weekend, May 16-17 at the Pac-10 Championship in Rancho Cordova, Calif. on Lake Natoma. For the complete schedule and results, log on to GoHuskies.com.
