SEATTLE - Greg Isaacson, John Otness and Brent Lillibridge each belted home runs as the Washington baseball team opened a three-game Pac-10 series with Oregon State by beating the Beavers, 10-4, Friday night at Husky Ballpark.
UW starter Sean White, a right-hander from Mercer Island who opened the season with three straight losses, won his fifth consecutive start to improve to 5-3. Against the Beavers, he worked five innings, surrendering four runs on five hits. Junior lefty Trent Baysinger held OSU scoreless over the final four innings for his second save.
Isaacson, the Huskies' second baseman from Aberdeen, finished the game 2-for-4 with three runs and four runs batted in . Otness was 2-for-4 and Lillibridge went 3-for-4 with three runs and a stolen base.
Washington (20-9 overall, 2-2 in the Pac-10) scored a run in the first when Isaacson scored on a bases-loaded groundout by first baseman Kyle Larsen.
In the second, it looked like the Huskies had been retired in order as Lillibridge went down on strikes for the third out, but the third strike got past catcher Paul Richie, allowing Lillibridge to reach first. After Tila Reynolds singled, Isaacson pulled the next offering from OSU starter Ben Rowe over the fence in right field for his third homer of the season, giving the UW a 4-0 lead.
In the third, after a single from Jacoby Ellsbury and a bloop single from Andy Jarvis, Seth Pietsch belted a two-out double to drive in one run. Chris Biles followed by dumping a short single down the left-field line and two more were in, cutting the UW lead to 4-3.
It wasn't long, however, before the Huskies were up by four once again. Otness belted the first pitch of the bottom of the fourth over the fence in left to open a three-run inning. Lillibridge followed with a single and stole second before scoring on a single from Isaacson and Isaacson scored his third run on a Hathaway single.
In the fifth, Otness drove in Taylor Johnson with a one-out double and Lillibridge followed with his third homer of the season to straightaway center field, increasing the Husky lead to 10-3.
Rowe (3-2) worked seven innings in the loss, allowing 10 runs (only six earned) on 12 hits. Oregon State fell to 13-14 overall and 1-3 in the conference.
The Huskies and Beavers continue the three-game series Saturday with a 1:00 p.m.
