Washington vs. Oregon Post-Game Quotes
January 2, 2009

Washington Head coach Lorenzo Romar
"Well, you look at the final stat sheet and we only committed nine turnovers. If you didn't watch the game you would think that is great. We did a great. The problem was over half were committed maybe during the most pivotal stretch in the game and we were playing pretty good. We turned the ball over. They got back into and gained a lot of confidence. Coming out in the second half, I just thought their guards were tremendous. Armstead and Tajuan Porter did a tremendous job controlling the tempo. They only had eight turnovers themselves, and a lot of it had to do with those guards handling the ball the entire time. They were very poised. You got a junior college junior kid in Malcolm Armstead and Tajuan Porter who's now a senior. They were very poised. They didn't allow our pressure to get to them at all. Consequently, they were able to create a lot of offense for their team. I didn't think we had the Husky grit that we need to have to get this done today. I thought maybe that was missing."

About the Husky defense
"I didn't think we did a great job, but also want to give a lot of great to again those guards. Their team wasn't beating us, those two guards were really good tonight. We get a chance to play them again, which we will definitely have to do a better job with those guards. Michael Dunigan's a very good player. They made life easier for him tonight with their play. As far as rebounding going into the game we were the league leader in our rebounding I don't think. That is a big big issue with us, but we should've rebounded the ball better this evening. "

On Malcolm Armstead
"Ernie Kent told me last spring or something, I forget, they were really excited about him. He's really good. He had a great reputation coming in. I watched him on film and I just thought, wait a minute, this guy is tremendous. Hard to miss a guy like that when your playing against him. "

Washington Guard Quincy Pondexter

On what happened in the game:
"Oregon outplayed us. There's not much you can say. We didn't come with the same heart, passion and desire that they had. We had a little lapse there in the first half where we committed several turnovers in a row. That really bit us."

On the perceived lack of intensity:
"I thought that we would come out more prepared. Not necessarily from a coaching standpoint but mentally, wanting to play as a team. I really don't know how to explain it. It's one of those things that happens. They played a lot better than us."

On Oregon's shooting night:
"They had a great shooting night. It started with their two guards in Armstead and Tajuan Porter. We've seen Tajuan Porter come and shoot the lights out on many teams. Today he just played a heck of a game, as well as the newcomer to the league in Armstead. I think he's a terrific point guard...They played excellent tonight and really controlled the game."

Washington Guard Venoy Overton

On how Oregon's shooting affected the defense:
"It's hard to play a team that can shoot the three as well as them. They had a great point guard that made us make a lot of decisions and he made the right choices a lot of the time."

On what needs to happen before the Arizona trip:
"We've got to come back together, not let this game drop our confidence and just be ready."

Oregon Coach Ernie Kent

"It is great to win a game like this. We have not won up here for a long time. This environment makes it so tough to win games. The student section is so loud and so into the game from the beginning to the end. They have got the best home court advantage right now in the conference because of their students. This is a tough tough place to play, and for this team [Oregon] to come in and break a streak of 18 straight wins against the defending Pac-10 champions, and doing it the way we did it, coming five hours over the mountains with guys sleeping on the floor of the bus. I just can't tell you where this team's destiny is at right now. They are such a great group of guys and they have so much growth potential. They are in a great place right now. It was a great basketball game, a great win, and obviously just a great way to start the Pac-10 season."

"He [Malcolm Armstead] played fabulous. You can see we shut down the rotation. People wonder why we were subbing so much in the pre-season, and it was because we were getting guys ready. These guys did not come here to sit on the bench, they came here to develop and that is what we are doing, we are developing them. Anytime we need a number off the bench we have it. Josh Crittle had not played in so long and I thought he played superb. LeKendric Longmire has not played in so long and he was the difference in the game. Malcolm [Armstead] and TP [Tajuan Porter] give us a one two tandem. You can't press us when they are in the game, they are great ball handlers, and they understand the game. You can see the difference they make in the game."

On Washington:
"They are an unbelievable basketball team. They caught us on a night when we were good rhythm for the entire weekend, but it is going to be very tough for teams to come in here and beat this team. Their guard play is excellent, they have good pressure, they run good, they have athletes, they have got depth, and they have got great coaching. You know that they are defending Pac-10 champs for a reason. This conference is up for grabs a little bit, and we have just got to go home and protect our home court. We need our building full, and on fire like this. We can be a great pressing team, and a great defensive team with Mac court full."
