WASHINGTON COACH LORENZO ROMAR
"I know this is only one game, but seeing the guys in the locker room when the game was over was exciting because they know they laid it all out on the line. They started slow and won the game the right way. They stuck together and did not point fingers. It was exciting to see the guys celebrating as a group. This was a character win for us. I could go on and on about all the different guys tonight. There was not one guy who was single handedly the star of the game. David Hudson only played six minutes tonight, but he was a significant impact as anyone else."
On the last 36 seconds of the game
"We wanted to take the last shot if the score was tied. We were able to get the ball to Doug (Wrenn) in the corner and Bobby Jones read the situation, positioned himself and the play came out. Bobby Jones is a winner."
On the Huskies first half performance
"We were running in the mud. We couldn't get it going. We got the momentum going in the locker room at halftime. The game is won or lost in the 15 minutes of halftime. We came out of halftime knowing we had a chance to win the game."
On the Huskies aggressive playing style
"Playing aggressive is a standard for us. We weren't up to standard in the first half. We knew we had to find a way to play the way we play and that is aggressive, blue-collar basketball."
USC COACH HENRY BIBBY
"I thought we had the game under control. They officials let them play tonight. They dominated the glass. They beat us on the boards. We didn't play good defense. They got first and second and third shots every time down the floor. You can't beat anybody like that, it doesn't matter if you have a lead or not, if they shoot 3 shots to your 1 it's going to be tough."
"They played well, they hung in there. They played according to the way the game was called. The officials let us play tonight, and they played that way. They played very aggressive basketball, something we probably should've done a little more. They beat us to the punch and they won the basketball game. It's a game we thought we could win."
On Defense and Rebounding
"I think we didn't play any defense, that was the key factor. We could not stop them, we need to get stops. They were stopping us and that's the difference in the game. They had everybody pounding the boards, we had basically one guy in there or two. We had Nick (Curtis) or Errick Craven, and those were our only two that were hitting the glass. We need five people rebounding the basketball."
On First Half Lead
"Well we were making shots, we were running. They were missing shots. But they made a run at the end of the first half. We got a technical foul and that swung things around. I think it was a big technical foul at that time of the game. And they caught some momentum going into halftime. A 10-point ball game at halftime is nothing. A 20 point ball game is really nothing in basketball so early."
