Head Coach Lorenzo Romar
On the game overall:
"Let's start off by giving credit to Utah State. They were everything that we thought and talked about all week. They are a very efficeint team, play well together, very gritty team, and a well-coached team. We weren't surprised by the way they played. That's exactly what we expected from them. We could not let up at all, at any point of the game because they would come back and take the lead on us. And I'm proud of our guys - we played as a team, fought hard, went out and got a victory tonight."
"I think something was on how efficient they were, and when when you are that efficient with timing and the ball, we felt that if we could continue to pressure the ball and deny the leads. Then we could force them to start their offense two-to three feet out from where they're used to setting up their offense. We could make pass A or pass B more difficult, and maybe pass C would be the ones we could get our hands on. And that's what we talk about: if you sit back and let this team run all their stuff, they'll pick us apart. We had no choice but to pressure them as much as we could, and turning the ball over that much is probably uncharacteristic of them. Fortunately, we were able to take advantage of that and force some turnovers."
On rebounding and facing Illinois:
"You have to assess what's going on and adjust as best you can. Because we were applying so much pressure out in front, it's going to open something up and something's got to give. On the inside defensively, if there was problem there, that [allowing backdoor cuts] might have been why. Offensively, when Brandon [Roy] and Jamaal [Williams] are going, you've got to go to those guys."
