LOS ANGELES -- No. 2 UCLA showed why it is a national title contender, blanking No. 31 Washington, 7-0. The Dawgs battled, narrowly losing the doubles point, but in singles the Bruins depth was too much for Washington.

Washington fell to 15-9 and 2-3 in the Pac-12, while UCLA improved to 19-1 and a perfect 5-0 in conference.

In doubles, UCLA's No. 1 squad took an 8-5 contest over Kyle McMorrow and Marton Bots, but UW battled back to make things interesting. Max Manthou were defeated at No. 3, 9-7, giving the point to UCLA.

In singles, UCLA clinched with three straight-set victories on the back courts. Sell defeated Hawke, 6-1, 6-0, to get things started. That match was followed by No. 70 Dennis Mkrtchian knocking off Egger, 6-1, 7-6 (2) and Clay Thompson defeating Farkas, 6-4, 6-4.

On court 1, McMorrow finally had his 12-match winning streak ended, but it took three sets to do it. No. 32 Dennis Novikov beat the Husky senior, 4-6, 6-2, 6-4.

Rounding out the rest of play were No. 18 Marcos Giron beating Bots, 6-2, 6-7 (5), (10-2), and No. 20 Puget knocking off Manthou, 5-7, 6-4, (12-10).

The Dawgs now have just a 24-hour turnaround before taking on another top opponent. Saturday, UW faces No. 4 USC at 1 p.m.
