SEATTLE - The Washington baseball team, on the road for its last five games, opens a three-game weekend series today vs. UC Riverside. The Huskies (16-15 overall, 5-4 in the Pac-10) are the only conference team taking on a non-league foe this weekend. The Highlanders come into the series 21-12 overall and 2-1 in Big West play.
Friday's game will feature one of the nation's top pitcher as UCR ace James Simmons (7-1, 1.81 earned run average) will square off with Husky sophomore Jorden Merry (5-3, 4.26). Merry has dropped his last two starts after having won five in a row. First pitch Friday is slated for 6:30 p.m.

In Sunday's 1:00 p.m. game, Washington will start sophomore lefthander Nick Haughian (3-4, 5.81) against UCR's senior southpaw Pat Cassa (2-3, 3.23).
