Artem Wallace Q&A

Despite being just a sophomore and relatively inexperienced, Artem Wallace will be counted on by the men's basketball team to be a major contributor and as a leader on the floor. Wallace will get his first Husky start in Friday's exhibition game against Saint Martin's University.

GoHuskies.com: Even as a sophomore, you're one of the more experienced players on the team this year. Are the older guys stepping up and helping out the young players?
Artem Wallace:
Yeah, we try to help them out as best we can. We help guide them through the things they don't know. The freshmen are picking it up really quick though, they're doing a good job.

GH: How's practice going?
AW:
It's going really well. We've got a lot of guys injured, so a lot of us are sick of playing against each other, so we're ready to get in some new guys.

GH: Are all of the injuries making practice going a little slower than you'd like?
AW:
It's just tough right now, because we only have the eight or nine guys playing each other. We just don't have much opportunity to mix up the teams. It's getting a little better now. We've got the tall guys into practices again, getting some time in.

GH: How's the team looking this year?
AW:
Right now, we've got the potential to be really good. It just depends on if we're able to come together as a team.

GH: The team made it to the Tournament last year...how great was it?
AW:
Really awesome. It was one of the best experiences of my life.

GH: What are you looking forward to this year?
AW:
Just getting some playing time. I did get to play last year, but I hope to play a lot more this year.

GH: Is the team looking forward to the LSU and Pitt games this year?
AW:
We're definitely looking forward to those games. Last year's preseason schedule wasn't as challenging as this year's preseason schedule, so we're really looking forward to the challenge.

GH: The Huskies are ranked number 16 in the Coaches' Poll right now, how are the players feeling about that?
AW:
I actually didn't know that until you just said it. Rankings don't matter to us as much. It's about how we do as a team, and how we stick together.

GH: What can we expect from you this year?
AW:
I just want to go out there and play hard, and do whatever it takes to get some rebounds. I'm looking forward to doing whatever Coach wants me to do.
