Dec. 18, 2012
SEATTLE - Senior Scott Suggs from the men's basketball team has been named the GoHuskies.com Student-Athlete of the Week for the week of Dec. 10-16.
The Washington, Mo., natvie averaged 20.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists, shooting 60% from the field and 55.6% from 3-point range in helping Washington to a 2-0 record during the week.
Suggs poured in a career-high 24 points, grabbed five rebounds, had two steals and two assists as the Huskies won an Emerald City battle at Seattle University 87-74 on Thursday. The senior made 7-of-10 shots, including 2-of-4 from 3-point range, and was perfect from the line (8-8). Besides setting new career highs in points, his five rebounds and two steals equaled previous personal bests. Suggs' efforts helped Washington win their first road game of the season for just the second time in Lorenzo Romar's 11-year coaching career.
Washington came out two days later and beat Jackson State75-67 on Saturday. Suggs had 17 points, a career-high six rebounds, career-high equaling two blocks and also three assists. He was 3-for-5 from 3-point range.
Suggs is averaging 20 points per game since returning from a sprained foot three games ago. He is shooting 55.2% from 3-point range (16-29) for the season, which would lead the Pac-12 if he qualified (he's played 70% of UW's games, needs 75%).
Other nominees include: Jazmine Davis (women's basketball).
