SEATTLE - Travell Dixon, a cornerback from Miami, Fla., has joined the Washington football team, head coach Steve Sarkisian announced today.

Dixon practiced with the UW this afternoon. A graduate of Norland High in Miami, he spent the last two football seasons at Eastern Arizona College, a junior college in Thatcher, Ariz.

Widely regarded as the top JC cornerback prospect in the nation, Dixon earned first-team NJCAA All-America as a sophomore in 2011, when he notched 39 tackles and four interceptions. He also earned ACCAC co-defensive player of the year, helping EAC to an 8-3 regular-season record and a berth in the Top of the Mountains Bowl.

As a freshman in 2010, he was a first-team all-region and all-league selection for the Gila Monsters.

As a senior at Norland High, he led all of Dade County with seven interceptions in his only season of high school football.

Dixon originally enrolled at Alabama last spring and thus will not be eligible to play for the Huskies this season due to NCAA transfer rules. In 2013, he'll be a fourth-year junior with two seasons of college eligibility remaining.
