WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - University of Washington reliever Will Fenton has been named the Pacific-10 Conference's Pitcher of the Week after the final week of regular season play, the conference office announced today.
Fenton, the Huskies' sophomore closer, picked up three saves in the UW's four wins last week as Washington beat Arizona State last Monday and swept USC last weekend. Fenton, a right-hander from Kingston, Wash., worked a total of five and one-third innings for the week, allowing three hits, no runs and no walks while striking out nine.
Fenton finished the regular season not having allowed a single run in 30 innings of work. He and the Huskies will head to Long Beach, Calif., this weekend for an NCAA Regional. Friday, Washington faces Minnesota in a first-round game. Saturday, the UW will face either Long Beach State or Pepperdine.
