SYRACUSE - Gameday is here and the Husky men's basketball team has a chance to make history tonight against West Virginia. Check back throughout the day for updates!
All times listed Eastern
8:43 p.m. - Timeout Huskies with 16:40 left in the game. Huskies are down 36-33. It wasn't a great start for the UW.
8:33 p.m. - It's halftime at the Carrier Dome. Washington leads West Virginia 29-27. Justin Holiday leads all scorers with 10 points. Isaiah Thomas has seven. Deniz Kilicli leads West Virginia with six points. The Huskies are being out-rebounded 18-13 but have seven steals and caused 13 WVU turnovers.
8:17 p.m. - We apolgize for the lack of updates. The Internet service in the Carrier Dome is having some issues. We hope they are resolved soon.
6:34 p.m. - Under 30 minutes to game time. Officials were announced about a half-hour ago: Tom Eades (SEC, MVC), Mike Eades (ACC, Big South), Brian Dorsey (ACC, CAA). Word is the UW fan section will have a few special guests today. Apparently, Nate Robinson (Boston Celtics), Jon Brockman and Spencer Hawes (both Sacramento Kings), along with Rashon Rondo (Celtics, former Kentucky player), have flown down from Boston to catch the game. Apparently, Brooke Lopez (New Jersey Nets), a childhood friend of Quincy Pondexter and former Stanford Cardinal, will be at the game as well.
4:25 p.m. - Just three hours until game time! The ticket staff is preparing to leave the hotel for the Carrier Dome and get ready to serve the UW fans at the Husky will call windows. The ticket office staff stresses just a bit early in the week since they don't actually receive the game tickets until arriving in Syracuse. Once they receive the tickets, they have to confirm the allocations and seating assignments, pull the tickets, place them in the appropriate envelopes, secure the staff and player requests... Well, needless to say it is not an easy job. And, gosh forbid they should make a mistake! The Husky Ticket Office staff deserve a huge kudos on the job they do every day, much less in non-traditional situations such as this weekend.
Thanks to all the Husky fans who are posting their thoughts and words of encouragement to the Dawgs on GoHuskies.com, the Huskies' official Facebook page and the @UWSportsNews Twitter feed. It is such a great feeling to read about everyone's support. Understand, the players and coaches see and feel it and the feelings of support are much appreciated.
2:45 p.m. - The team finished practice and returned to the hotel. A few staffers checked out the Syracuse campus and saw several Husky fans taking in the local scenery. The SU Bookstore had NCAA and UW gear for sale and said they'd seen several Washington fans in their store throughout the morning. At the team hotel, a CBS production staffer noted he'd flown in from Philadelphia last night and there were "a ton of Washington fans" on his plane.
After the team practice, several (non-coach) UW staffers enjoyed lunch at Heid's of Liverpool, a local eatery that has been around since 1917 and specializes in hot dogs. Excellent stuff.
12:15 p.m. - We have setup a page for Husky fans to send in words of encouragement and to let other Dawg fans know where you are watching tonight's game! Click here to submit your comments.
11:58 p.m. - The Huskies are hanging in the Carrier Dome, waiting to grab basketballs and begin practice. The team's allotted practice time today is 12-1 p.m. Since it isn't technically 12 p.m. on the dot, yet, the team is prohibited from picking-up basketballs off the rack. Once 12 noon hits, the buzzer will sounds and the Dawgs will have exactly one hour for their practice.
9:20 a.m. - Following a mid-morning wake-up call and breakfast, the Huskies will head over to the Carrier Dome for a noon shootaround/walk-through in preparation for tonight's game. The weather in Syracuse is a little more gray can cool today. It is currently just 40 degrees and the forecast calls for a high of 53 degrees and showers. Tonight, the temperature is predicted to drop to 22 degrees and about an inch of snow could fall.
