The Washington football team has accepted an invitation to play in the Bridgepoint Education Holiday Bowl Dec. 30 in San Diego. The Huskies will face Nebraska from the Big 12 Conference. The game kicks off at 7:00 p.m. PST and will air live on ESPN.
The Huskies (6-6 overall and 5-4/third place in the Pac-10) wrapped up their season with three consecutive victories to earn a bowl berth. The Huskies beat UCLA and Cal before defeating cross-state rival Washington State, 35-28, in Saturday's Apple Cup in Pullman.
Washington, under second-year head coach Steve Sarkisian, will be making its first bowl-game appearance since 2002 and playing in its 31st bowl game all-time.
"We're thrilled to be invited to play in the Holiday Bowl and to represent the University of Washington and the Pac-10," Sarkisian said. "This is a tremendous reward for a football team that fought through to the end of the season. We look forward to a great trip and an exciting game vs. Nebraska."
The Huskies have played in three previous Holiday Bowls: in 1996 vs. Colorado, in 1999 vs. Kansas State and in 2001 vs. Texas.
Washington will begin bowl practices this coming Friday, Dec. 10, and will depart for San Diego on Dec. 23.
