WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and Pacific-10 Conference football officials are joining other college and professional officials to demonstrate their support of this worthy cause.
In all Pac-10 football games during the last two weeks of October, Pac-10 officials will be using pink whistles as a symbol of support in combating this deadly disease.
In addition, in another initiative Pac-10 officials have combined to make a financial donation to The V Foundation for Cancer Research and will wear commemorative pins on their uniforms on National College Football Day on November 3.
"The fight against cancer is a most worthwhile cause," said Pac-10 Commissioner Tom Hansen. "I am proud of the Pac-10 football officials for showing their support of the fight against breast cancer with the symbolic pink whistle, as well as for their most generous donation to the Jimmy V Fund.
"Progress is being made in the fight against cancer, but we must remain aggressive."
