TEMPE, Ariz. - Washington qualified four athletes for May's NCAA West Regional after a long day of competition on Saturday at the Arizona State Invitational in Tempe, Ariz. While UW sprinters and jumpers were in Arizona, the throwers were down in Auburn, Alabama competing in Auburn's Springtime Invitational. For full results of that competition visit www.auburntigers.com. With this being the second outdoor meet of the season for the Huskies, and it being the first full weekend of outdoor track and field competition, the Huskies are taking an early opportunity to set qualifying marks.

Junior All-America Ashley Lodree, who holds the school's 100m-hurdle record at 13.17 seconds, flew by the competition on Saturday. Not only did she qualify for Regionals, she set a new meet record by clocking the race in 13.20 seconds. Another Husky to capture a Regional qualifying mark was senior Bruce Jackson, who won the 400m dash in a time of 47.25 seconds. Jackson's personal best in the event is 46.60 seconds.

While Lodree and Jackson were tearing it up on the track, sophomore All-America Norris Fredericks was showing what he could do on the field, in the long jump and high jump. Fredericks, who has jumped the 4th best long jump, and 3rd best high jump in Washington history qualified for Regionals in both events respectively. Norris' jump of 24-02 ½ in the long jump captured him the win, while a jump of 6-10 ¾ in the high jump placed him in second after a judges decision based on fewer scratches.

Also setting new personal records Saturday were junior Isaiah Stanback (100m dash, 10.70), junior Phil McCary (400m hurdles, 53.90), sophomore Trisha Rasmussen (3000m run, 10:02.45), and freshman Falesha Ankton (400m hurdles, 1:05.59).

The whole Washington team will rejoin together in Seattle next week to prepare for the annual Oregon Invitational, Apr. 1 in Eugene, Ore.
