ORLANDO - Washington linebacker Joe Lobendahn was one of 65 college linebackers named to the 2005 Butkus Award watch list, the Downtown Athletic Club of Orlando announced today.
Lobendahn, from Honolulu, Hawaii, led the Huskies in tackles last season as a junior. His 10.0 tackles per game with third-most in the Pac-10 Conference and his 13.5 tackles for loss were seventh.
The Butkus Award watch list will be trimmed to 10 semi-finalists on October 20. That semi-finalist list will be cut down to three finalists which will be announced via a national teleconference with players, coaches, media members and Butkus Award officials on November 10.
The winner will be announced Saturday, December 10, 2005, at the Butkus Award Gala in Orlando. The award will be presented to the winner by the award's namesake, former University of Illinois and Chicago Bear NFL Hall of Fame member, Dick Butkus.
This year's watch list includes 65 candidates, including six from Pac-10 schools: Stanford's Jon Alston, Oregon State's Trent Bray, Washington State's Will Derting, UCLA's Spencer Havner, USC's Dallas Sartz and Lobendahn.
